Kaizen Gaming’s Betano has been granted a permit to function in Ontario by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
Betano can now provide its online gaming services in the Canadian province.
The permit is valid for a year, starting on August 17th and ending on August 16th, 2023, and covers the Betano.ca website.
Kaizen and Betano will join other operators who have been given licenses in Ontario, which began its regulated online gambling market in April.
The start of the province’s legal online gambling market ended the lottery’s online gambling monopoly.
Companies like theScore, PointsBet, and Bet365 got license approvals before the market launched, while companies like PokerStars, SkillOnNet, and BetVictor got approvals after the market opened.
In April, Allwyn, a lottery and gambling company, agreed to buy a 36.75% share in Betano from OPAP, a Greek lottery company. Allwyn (formerly known as Sazka) will pay €50 million upfront as part of the deal, as well as undisclosed earnings based on business performance in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
