The Oregon Lottery Board has authorized a plan to move its sports wagering product, Scoreboard, from its conventional SBTech system to DraftKings’ structure.
Barry Parker, the Oregon Lottery’s Chief Executive Officer, clarified at yesterday’s (August 26) board meeting that they had contemplated switching from the SBTech system, which has driven Scoreboard since 2019, to DraftKings’ upgraded solution. “There are numerous commercial advantages in simplifying some of the framework, and bettors will also gain because the experience will be enhanced on the new system,” Parker explained.
This will see the product continue to operate under the DraftKings name in the state, but a schedule for this alteration has not yet been declared.
DraftKings is migrating from its prior sports betting solution, powered by Kambi, to a modernized version of the SBTech system, following its takeover of the provider in December 2019. The migration is anticipated to be finished in the third quarter of 2021.
In response to Commissioner Julie Wilcox’s worries about possible disruption and financial losses due to the transition, Pack stated that the lottery will “endeavor to make the [procedure] as seamless as feasible.”
Nevertheless, he added that patrons will have to re-enroll their DraftKings accounts to finalize the alteration. He indicated that this might cause some bettors to withdraw from the migration, but the reduction in their expenditures would be balanced by the enhanced user experience and expanded wagering choices.
