The British gaming sector is poised to “go all out” in supporting the nation’s travel industry rebound from the coronavirus crisis. Brigid Simmonds, the leader of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), commended the government’s choice to relax travel limitations, deeming it “wonderful news” for London casinos. She stressed that these gaming establishments are now “ideally positioned to contribute to the post-pandemic revival.”
Simmonds, who also serves on the board of Tourism Alliance, an organization representing UK travel enterprises, shared her comprehension of the pandemic’s consequences on individuals and companies dependent on the tourism sector. She pointed out that physical gambling businesses in the UK were also significantly affected by the decline in travel.
“In my present capacity at the BGC, I have directly witnessed the impact travel constraints and lockdowns have had on numerous members, both in regions reliant on domestic and corporate tourism, as well as those heavily dependent on international visitors,” she elaborated. While recognizing the adverse effects on casinos, wagering shops, and bingo halls, she added, “We enthusiastically embrace the Ministers’ decision to loosen travel restrictions to aid in tourism’s recovery.”
Simons statements mirrored the UK Gambling Commission’s (BGC) prior endorsement of the government’s post-pandemic revitalization strategy. BGC Chief Executive Michael Dugher had declared on March 21st that the organization’s constituents would stand behind any measures by the Treasury to replenish public funds. Simon finished by conveying his aspiration that “by English Tourism Week 2023, we will be in an even more advantageous situation and greeting numerous visitors from abroad to the British Isles.”
