The Netherlands’ gaming regulator, known as the KSA, has levied a penalty of €350,000 (equivalent to roughly $391,532) against ElectraWorks Limited. This sanction stems from the company’s provision of internet gambling services via its Bwin.com platform.
The Gibraltar-headquartered enterprise was determined to be soliciting Dutch patrons, offering digital wagering on sporting events, roulette, blackjack, and poker. This occurred despite the current illegality of online games of chance within the Netherlands.
Bolstering the regulator’s conclusions, it was discovered that the company employed payment methods denominated in the Dutch language. ElectraWorks manages the Bwin brand, a constituent of GVC Holdings.
Supplementary proof encompassed the utilization of content in the Dutch language and a website domain ending in “.nl”.
Although the KSA anticipates that the Remote Gambling Act will legitimize online gambling commencing January 1, 2021, operators will only receive licenses upon fulfilling stringent prerequisites.
The KSA projects the issuance of approximately 90 online gambling licenses. This estimation was derived from expressions of interest and observations from international jurisdictions, as per the KSA’s statement.
