The Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) recently took steps against an additional four unlicensed overseas wagering platforms, directing Australian internet providers to restrict access to them.
These four sites – Bao Casino, Pokie Place, Reels of Joy, and Ozwin Casino – were the focus of multiple complaints submitted to the ACMA. After an inquiry, they were determined to be violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
This measure is part of a broader initiative by the ACMA to safeguard Australians from illicit gambling activities. Since their initial blocking request in November 2019, the ACMA has effectively blocked a sum of 263 unlawful gambling websites. Moreover, since the enactment of new illegal offshore gambling regulations in 2017, over 130 illicit services have withdrawn from the Australian market.
Restricting these websites is just one of several enforcement tools at the disposal of Australian regulators. The ACMA stresses that blocking these platforms offers a valuable chance to caution the public about the risks of unlawful gambling services. One such action is the presentation of a warning notice to users every time they try to reach these sites.
